BRAIN SPOTTING THERAPY

Do you ever get stuck in a pattern or habit and you “know” it doesn’t make logical sense but you just can’t seem to help yourself? Maybe you’re struggling to recover from a situation, event or accident that is in the past but seems like it continues impact your life. Brainspotting (BSP) is an exciting, innovative counselling model that is a proven method in addressing a large number of challenges. BSP targets the limbic system, also known as the subcortical part of the brain.  This is where emotional processing happens and where traumatic and overwhelming events that haven’t received proper care can get stuck.  The information in our limbic systems isn’t remembered, it’s experienced in the present which is why troubling events that happened many years ago can still create problems today.  BSP is able to bring what is troubling from the past into the safety of the present which allows the necessary processing to happen.  BSP is very useful for all types of trauma (accidents, weather events, medical trauma, abuse), depression, anxiety, phobias, addictions and chronic pain.  BSP is also a good option for people experiencing performance blocks in their work, art or athletics.

BSP isn’t quite like traditional talk therapy. With the tagline, “where you look affects how you feel”, it combines our ability to notice our emotions and sensations in our bodies while finding a point in our visual field that connects with that sensation.  This provides access to the spot in the limbic system that is holding the unresolved elements in our nervous system, allowing it to be properly processed. BSP is an excellent model for all ages and at times suits people who feel that they want to pursue therapy but don’t feel like they have the ability to articulate what they want to say.

Free Consultation

It can be overwhelming to try to choose a counsellor, especially if you’ve had some poor experiences in the past. You can book a 20 minute consultation for no charge for the purpose of meeting me and asking any questions you would like. This isn’t essential but if you’re feeling unsure about booking a paid session I would highly recommend trying a free consultation.
